1964 Graduates
Bacon, Peter James
- Hi guys remeber me - Peter Bacon. - the kid from England. Well, I have fond memories of my High School years and remember well many friends - Barry Copp - where are you?, Hope Clark - call me it's been over 6 years), Tom Blackburn - it's been longer!, Patti - it's been forever!, Nancy - (Simon's Dad is Clive Griffiths the commodore from the Point Claire Yacht Club - I think you know him ) and many many more. After High School I graduated from Sir George Williams University in 1969 with a B.Comm degree and after spending the summer in Europe (mostly England visiting relatives ) returned and found work in Montreal. I had come to be fascinated with the brokerage industry while in University and sought out work in that area. I started with Nesbitt Thomson in the fall of 1969 and realy learned to love the business.
- I married Heather MacKeen (also class of 1964 ) in 1970 and we lived in Montreal until 1972 when I was transferred by Nesbitt to Toronto (Quelle Horreur!!). Soon after I left Nesbitt and went to Bank of Montreal where I was involved in the startup of the MasterCharge (now MasterCard ) credit card division at the Bank. I worked there for 10 years and was operations head of the divison when I left (1983) to accept a promotion in the bank as Vice President of Banking Operations ( I was 35 at the time - one of the youngest VP's ever at BOM - at the time).
- At this time my son Andrew was just 2 years old (born in 1981) and life was busy. I was about to graduate with my MBA (U. of Toronto @ night ) and I hated my job - staff operations was head office stuff and I really missed running my own division. Then Sarah was born (1984) and I continued to work and hate my job and life went on. Just as I was
getting ready to quit the Bank along came a project to establish a discount brokerage firm and as I had the only brokerage experience in the Bank I was asked to head the project. I did and became President and CEO of Bank of Montreal InvestorLine. I had a great time. In 1995 I did leave the Bank after 22 years! I joined some colleagues at Hongkong Bank
of Canada (now HSBC Bank Canada) to set up a brokerage firm for them. At the same time I got divorced from Heather and moved into Toronto (from Mississauga where we had lived for 20 years - Heather still lives there).
- I spent the next 5 years building HSBC InvestDirect into a successful discount brokerage firm. Last year the firm was reorganized within the HSBC Group to become part of the global joint venture company established between HSBC London (one of the largest banking organizations in the world ) and Merrill Lynch New York (the largest full service broker in the world). They created a new firm called Merrill Lynch HSBC Headquatered in London Engalnd. The objective is to become -over the next ten years- the worlds pre-eminent global on line
banking and brokerage firm. My company HSBC InvestDirect is now Merrill Lynch HSBC Canada. I am President and CEO.
- Today I live happily in Toronto with the love of my life, my partner (of 5 years) Simon. He manages an internet based art gallery business that we own [www.inuit.net], and he works part time for Canada 3000 - giving us lots of travel benefits. We have a great time travelling all over the world and have literally been around the world in the past 5 years....with much more planned. My son Andrew who turn 20 next week also lives in downtown Toronto and we see him often. Andrew and I just spent 3 days sailing and kayaking in the Gulf Islands while visiting some old friends on Saltspring Island in BC. My daughter Sarah still lives with her mother in Mississauga. Life is good - would love to hear from any of you who remember me ..... ciao for now! My email address is : peter.hickman@allstream.net . Email me :)
- PS: I changed my name back to my birth name Peter Hickman after my step father Ken Bacon died about 7 years ago. Mom died 3 years ago and Simon and I took her ashes to England last year and buried her next to my real father where I grew up in England.
Bauer, Edelgard (Now, Edie Coon) (* move to Cleveland in 1960)
- I was called Edelgard Bauer when I lived in Sept Iles, from Grade 1 through Grade 7. Now I go by Edie, it's easier to pronounce. I live in Mendocino on the Northern California Coast. My husband is a
California wildland fire captain, (soon to retire, I hope, so we can visit some of the many places I've lived, including Sept Iles). We had a second home in the Gulf Islands (Gabriola) for a couple of years but just sold it because we had so few opportunities to go there. If I had known Patti MacFarlane was in Victoria, I would have tried to look her up. We have a daughter (34). No grandkids yet , but she is engaged, so maybe someday...
- I spent many years in the San Francisco Bay Area working in the computer industry. I happened to meet Jennifer Booth again while living there (Jennifer and her family moved from Sept Iles to Lafayette, I lived in Sunnyvale), and as luck would have it, when I moved to Southern California (Newport Beach) for a few years, Jennifer happened to live in nearby Santa Ana. Jennifer had news about Margaret (Margot) Kidder, by then a well-known actress, but we never had occasion to meet with her.
- I'm now "retired" from various jobs ranging from teaching to electronic layout designer to owning a sewing machine store. I now devote my time to family, hearth and home: gardening, sewing, cooking and baking. Water aerobics at the local health club (have loved swimming ever since the "new" recreation center was built in Sept Iles in 1958 or 1959), and volunteering at the nearby botanical gardens and lighthouse keep me from becoming a total hermit. I am a brand-new member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons), which also keeps me busy inside and outside the home. My email address is : greenman@mcn.org. Email me :)
Blackburn, Thomas Charles
- I attended Queen E from 1959 to 64 and have great memories of school dances, student council, and basketball trips to Baie Comeau (Ian Worthington "Worthy" where are you!).Graduated from the University of Ottawa in 1970 with a B.Sc. in chemistry and went on to teach in Montreal. Married my high school sweetheart Hope Clark (see class of 1964) in Montreal where the two of us taught. We had a son Daniel in 1983 and from 1986 to 89 taught in West Germany for National Defense. Unfortunately we broke up soon afterwards and I relocated to Peterborough Ontario. I have since remarried and now teach in an adult high school with only a year and a half to go! Hope lives in Canmore Alberta where she runs a small store and Dan plays Junior Hockey for the Kootenay Ice in Cranbrook B.C.. He will probably play in this years "Prospects" game in Calgary in February on CTV and we have high hopes for the NHL draft in June in Miami. I'd love to hear from the 60's crowd especially. Great website!
Clarke, Mark Stephen
- After a brief (very brief) stint at Mt. Allison University, I lived and worked in Sept-Iles until 1974 at which time I moved to Montreal. However, I guess I never really left the North Shore since I have worked in Montreal for Quebec Cartier Mining Co. for the last 25 years! I'm a senior buyer in the materials management group and still make semi-regular forays to Port Cartier and Labrador City/Fermont. My email address is : markclarke@eudoramail.com. Email me :)
Clark, Hope Elsa
Copp, Barry John
Cummins, Donna Gail
Farnam, Nancy
Hall, Dorothy Esme

Johnson, Kirsten Estella
MacFarlane, Patricia Anne
- Left Sept Iles in 1967 for Montreal. Am now a mother of two boys, one 21, the other 23. I live and work in Victoria, B.C. I have worked at university and public libraries since leaving Sept-Iles and still work in that milieu. My email address is : crvry@netscape.net. Email me :)
MacKeen, Heather Doreen
Worthington, Ian Michael
- I was born in London, England, and came to Montreal, Canada in 1951. We moved to Sept-Iles in 1952 and stayed until 1969 when I first got married. I have three children from my first marriage; a daughter Tracy (29), and two sons Philip, (25) and Leigh (23). Tracy has a 20 month old baby girl Emilie (yes I'm now a granddad) and is a sales rep for an American pharmaceutical company in Montreal. Philip works for my former employer as an operator and Leigh was until recently a flight attendant for
Air Canada. All three live in the Montreal region which is really a great bonus.
- I attended Mile-3 school initially, then Flemming Elementary and finally moved into the new (at that time) QEHS. I left QEHS in 1965 and attended Lisgar Collegiate in Ottawa for a year then on to Simon Fraser U. in Burnaby, B.C. I returned to Montreal SGWU (now Concordia) where I graduated (taking night school for the last two years) in 1971 with a B.Comm.
- I have worked almost entirely in Montreal for manufacturing firms such as PPG, Nortel, Crane and Quebecor Printing in Human Resources Management. I retired last February (you'll never have enough money, just do it) after 31 years the last eight as a senior executive. I suppose I had my fill with both unions and management alike.
- I remarried 17 years ago to Terri and we are now enjoying our newfound lifestyle with some travel (cruising), long drives (my baby Miata),golf, curling, good friends and food. Even a bit of work gardening and fixing up our home from time to time! To all my old friends, hello once again and please let's hear from you.I'd love to catch up with you.If you plan to be in the area please let us know so we can get together.
