uniMUL
Unifoam uniMUL is an emulsifying and
dispersing agent for Hazmat applications. It has been
formulated for
use on hydrocarbon fuel spills such as
gasoline,diesel fuels, kerosene,
fuel oils as well as various oil-based products such
as paints.
uniMUL has been developed to be used
primarily for fuel spills into sewers where the elimination
ot trapped vapours and odours is of primary importance,
as well as the safe dispersion of the fuel within the sewer.
uniMUL may also be used on ground surface
spills depending on environmental
regulations regarding the removal of spilt fuels.
uniMUL does two things. First, it breaks down
the hydrocarbon product into
smaller particles, allowing it to mix more readily
with water.
Secondly, it reduces flammable vapours to a level
below the lower explosive limit.
It is important to understand that uniMUL
does not render a fuel non-flammable.
Ignition or explosion may occur.
The emulsifying of fuel with uniMUL takes
place under agitation or turbulent action.
The solution stream should be directed as much as
possible into the fuel
in order to obtain a good mixing effect. This is
contrary to fire fighting foam
applications where the foam is directed at the
surface of the fuel without
disturbing the fuel surface. One important thing to
remember is that uniMUL
is not a fire fighting foam. Do not use
uniMUL for fire fighting applications.
Typical Applications
uniMUL is applied with a portable foam
eductor system using
air-aspirating foam nozzles. The eductor should be
set at 3 per cent to
achieve a solution of 3 parts concentrate to 97
parts water. In cases of
high fuel vapour readings and / or conditions of a
more extreme nature, the
eductor may be set at 6 per cent to achieve a
solution of 6 parts concentrate
to 94 parts water.
Flowrates should be around 230 L/min of
uniMUL solution at a pressure of 1400 kPa.
The amount of uniMUL solution to fuel should
be not less than 5:1.
This means for every litre of spilt fuel, at least 5
litres of uniMUL solution
should be used.
For sewer applications, uniMUL can be used at
between 1% to 3%, using an
air-aspirating foam nozzle. For ground surface
spills, use uniMUL at
between 3% to 6%, using either a fog nozzle or air-
aspirating foam nozzle.
This product is biodegradable, non-corrosive and
poses minimum risk to the environment.
