The municipality of Candiac is the youngest in the Laprairie county, since it was
founded in 1957. The coat of arms of the city of Candiac remind us of the memory of the Marquis de Montcalm, born in the castle called Candiac in France, and from the city's attachment to the family of Candiac's first mayor, Jean Leman.
Born from the brainchild of a group of Canadian and foreign investors, the city of Candiac covers and area of 105 million square feet. Founded in 1957, its territory was entirely cut out from the city of Laprarie, its over 300 year old neighbour.
Built on old agricultural lands, the city of Candiac was conceptualized along urbanized lines which would permit the zoning of areas reserved for the functions of a new and modern city.
Polpulated by 14 000 citizens today, Candiac has a potential of one day reaching 50 000 inabitants.
