Hello all, A bit of a long note but you might enjoy...
I have been doing a bit of reading and research into "creativity". This began because I felt that the new Ontario curriculum is so lacking in any opportunity for creativity on the part of both students and teachers. My initial idea was to perhaps develop some materials that allowed teachers to teach creatively while, at the same time, teaching the curriculum content. I even contemplated perhaps doing another degree focused on creativity in education. As you know, I have also started a search for my own creativity - pottery courses, mosaic classes. At the same time, I do realize that creativity is not necessarily limited to the Fine Arts as we all know from our own lives and work!
Anyway, my readings and searches have taken me on many journeys. These readings inevitably always seemed to link creativity with spirituality. While this has been interesting, the most curious part has been that the word "cairos" or "kairos" has appeared over and over again in my searches. I thought I would share with you a few things I have learned about this name of ours.
"Kairos" is an ancient Greek word. Today, it sometimes appears as "cairos". Some definitions which I have found are:
"At the perfect moment""Cairos is the ability to recognize the most suitable time for doing something. Moreover, it is indeed an art to act within the eternal flow of time in search of a way that, catching the right moment for an action, actually ensures its success."
"Kairos is...
- the time of transition
- the right and proper time
- the time of opportunity
- the will to invent"Cairos...is the loaded time when change and transformation can happen."
"time is 'chronos'...season is "kairos" "
"Cairos is the ancient Greek word that means "the right moment" or "the opportune" "
"The artist must seige upon the crucial moment to perform accurately and skillfully in order to achieve a goal. The archer will connect suddenly and impactfully with his target, the weaver will forge a lasting bond upon which he can later build. It should not surprise, then, that the sophists seized upon "kairos" as a term defining the goal of effective communication."
There is a German company called "Cairos Technologies." They used the name "Cairos" because it means "at the perfect moment." Their company developed software which is used in rugby and other games in Europe.
And finally,
"Kairos will come - the moment when the human and the divine are working together. That is the moment when we move out of chronos, or chronological time, and into kairos, the eternal moment. This is the creative moment."
Enjoy the moment! Much love, Astrid.
Thanks Astrid.
I learned some time ago from a very kind and gentle Messianic rabbi I know that the meaning of our name "De Cairos" is God's timing. When I received this wonderful email message from my sister, it was a good reminder. And it brought home even more powerfully to me, that God has a purpose, and a plan, for my life.
As He does for yours.
Thanks be to God! Alleluia!
